A moderate growing, hardy azalea (semi-evergreen) with abundant double lavender orchid-like blooms in spring. Plant originally developed by Joseph Gable who crossed numerous Asian species obtained from the Arnold Arboretum with native American azaleas on his rural Pennsylvania farm. One of the best used for creating exceptional springtime displays of color. Prefers sun to part shade in well-drained rich soil. 3' tall x 4' wide in 10 years. USDA zone 5.
